Kimball Island Glow

The way the sunset lights up the golden house on Kimball Island in downtown Exeter, New Hampshire is more than a beautiful sight. The natives called the water behind this centuries-year-old house, the Great Falls. This island, connected by String Bridge to the mainland, is where the river changes names as it runs down these rocky steps to join the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Behind the house, the water is the Exeter River, in front of Kimball Island’s house, it becomes the Squamscott, salty and full of possibilities. Here you can see the wild birds, eagles and even an occasional seal gather to eat and play. We all watch as the tides sift in and out, unable to rush up the Great Falls. And all this life and light are centered around Kimball Island, a summertime view, painted when I lived in Exeter, New Hampshire.
