“Wolfeboro Bridge”, New Hampshire

A golden tree bends over the little bridge. In summer, the boat traffic squeezes under that tiny gap, the key-hole that unlocks the crystalline waters of Lake Winnepesaukee. Or if you want to enjoy the Back Bay side of the lake, you escape the crowds by going under. On this Fall day, it’s too cold to sail, but not too cold to paint.

Artist’s Note: A couple summers back, my husband and I and our boys paddle-boarded under that little bridge. We paddled carefully dodging the flood of Lake Winnepesaukee traffic that roared behind and around us. The Front Bay bridge was so low we would have smacked our foreheads if we hadn’t quickly sat down. But then, we were out in the crystalline waters, incredulous and smiling. We were just like Bob (remember ‘What About Bob?”) enjoying the waters of Lake Winnepesaukee. Last Fall, I got to paint this scene plein air (outside) in the beauty of a warm Autumn day. Wolfeboro boasts the “oldest summer resort in America”. We know why. What a treat to visit and paint in this historic, captivating spot. Wolfeboro Bridge is a studio piece from that study.
