Watercolor Print "Exeter Rooftops"

The award-winning piece that took “Best in Show”. The original has been purchased, but you can own a print.

Those snowy roofs captured me one afternoon. In Swasey Park you can easily see this skyline when looking across the Squamscott River at downtown Exeter. You can see the City Hall spire and the roofs of the buildings on Water Street that surround the Phillips-Exeter Academy.

Artist’s Note: I painted the original study near the beginning of February, 2022. It was one of my first paintings of Exeter where I felt like I captured that wonderful sunset light on the snowy rooftops. I saw the light out my studio window and dropped all my plans to sketch a tiny (3 x 4″) landscape painting. It was a messy but inspiring little sketch. I had enough information to record the right colors of those soft pinks and blues.  I wanted to focus on the stair steps of the snowy rooftops so I painted another mini landscape to sell. Months later, I painted this larger size from the tiny studies. You can see those smaller studies in the product gallery. Even though it’s a lot larger, I think the original plein air study captures the same calm wintry feel.

Acid-free print of original watercolor. Unframed.
