Try to Catch Me
My son was tired from a long drive to the coast of Florida, so when we arrived at the lovely seaside town of Punta Gorda, he challenged me to race. Instead of running, I snapped a pic that inspired this painting. It was the distance that made the beauty. Sometimes friendships need just that: a little bit of space to realize how good they are.
Greens can be difficult in painting, they tend to look flat or monotonous. But in this one, even though nearly everything I saw was green, I can feel the warmth and variety of greens in Florida. I am particularly happy with how the palm tree shadow turned out. I also like the way the background trees and houses all melt together. You can even see our Sprinter van parked in the back lot. But there are so many lost-and-found edges, I bet you didn’t see it until I pointed it out. Those lost-and-found edges are the goal for any artist, but watercolor is particularly well-suited to create them.
