Leaning Douglas with Storm

Have you ever walked in a place so quiet you remembered who you were? “Leaning Douglas” captures that quietness of winter, the waiting work of silence.  The evergreens melt into the beige of winter aspen bark, because on this particular slope, the aspen have won the sunshine battle.  And yet, perhaps it was his need to read toward the light, one lone, learning evergreen, one of the few Douglas Firs left,. He stands proudly learning toward the flock of aspen.  A sentinel of winter, we walked under his boughs and collected that peculiar pinecone to these Douglas firs.
