This was one of the first Cottonwood trees to turn gold in the Yampa River Valley near Steamboat Springs, Colorado. I stood on the side of the road to paint this picture outside along the busy highway. This is what painters call “plein air” in the outside air, to really capture the colors, shadows and values properly. I don’t usually sell my plein air pieces. This one is an exception.
